This eagle came out of the nest too early. On July 5th, our staff went to assess the situation to see if he needed help or if the situation was normal. We knew his parents were in the area, but it was concerning that he was out of the nest and on the ground. Post 4th of July, many birds and mammals find themselves displaced. It is likely this is what happened to him as well.
It was clear that he very thin, dehydrated, and had been injured (bruised) in the fall. The decision was made to bring him back to the facility for care. Blood work revealed he was anemic and despite his parents best efforts - he would not have survived long on the ground.
We are doing all we can to get him healthy and strong. Status - released.
