Patient Profiles

Every day new patients arrive at our facility. We see over 3,000 patients annually. Over 135 different species come to us for care. In an effort to tell their stories of survival and highlight the diverse number of species that we rehabilitate, we try to share some of their stories here. You can also see posts on our social media pages.

Sparred owl?

This little guy came to us from the Darrington area. He was found wet and cold on the ground in a shed. He appears to be a hybrid of a Spotted owl and a Barred owl. We suspect that he is suffering from rodenticide poisoning.

We have had several cases recently of poisoned patients, including the Long-tailed weasel we profiled a couple of weeks ago. PLEASE do NOT use poisons, they have unintended consequences.

The very species we need to keep our rodent populations under control are impacted by the rodenticides. Use snap traps instead for rats and mice, but use them in areas where other animals cannot be caught too. Secure your trash and remove pet food etc to keep rats away. Status - died. Sadly, the effects of the poisoning were too far gone and could not be reversed.
