A Wild Start

Baby Season 2022

During the winter months, our staff spent their time doing deep cleaning projects, organizing and sorting, and checking off a myriad of “to-do” lists to prepare for our 2022 Baby Season. We are just a few days away from the official start of spring – but, wildlife babies don’t consult our calendar. The first babies of the season are now in our care.

These two orphaned Eastern Gray Squirrels are currently in our baby mammal nursery.

We will take in over 3,000 patients this year and some days we will receive dozens of orphaned wildlife babies in a single day. Hundreds of patients are in care at a time during the peak season and we need help to care for them. Our student interns will arrive in May and June and stay with us for 12-weeks learning all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation to help them with their future education and career goals.

We also need VOLUNTEERS to help us with our daily work. If you have been interested in volunteering, now is the time to apply! Email us for a questionnaire to get started. Space is limited. You can read more about the requirements and time commitment on our website.

Rescues Keep Us BUSY....

This Beaver was one of our recent rescues.
She was found on the ground after being attacked by an eagle.
She is being treated for deep wounds and infection caused during the encounter.

Rescuing wildlife has been a major part of our mission since Sarvey started in 1981. Many of our long-time supporters remember Bob Jones (“Crazy Bob”) who drove our wildlife ambulance for many years. Our staff and volunteers still make rescues a priority. Bob passed away on February 11, 2006 and he rescued countless patients in need.

While most of our patients are transported to our facility by caring citizens, sometimes animals are too big, too dangerous, or otherwise trapped/stuck and need our direct attention. Please call us if you have any questions or concerns about wildlife you encounter. We are here seven days a week!

This Young Bald Eagle was having a rough first year.
She was in a fight with another eagle.
After a short time in our care, she was able to be released.

During the summer of 2021, we acquired a new rescue ambulance. We went out on a total of 111 rescues last year. So far this year, we have dispatched volunteers and staff out on 26 rescues. Raccoons, swans, eagles, owls, a bat, a beaver, and even a raven are some of our recent rescues!

We look forward to sharing more updates with you as the 2022 season begins. Watch for details about our virtual auction this fall, "adoptions" of stuffed animals will be available soon in our online store to help with our expenses, and much more....

If you would like to receive a printed copy of our newsletter (one is created 4 times a year) please let us know and we will be sure to add you to our mailing list!

Check out our website for our weekly Patient Updates. We profile one patient and share their story and progress. Thank you for helping make our work possible. We are grateful for your donations and contributions from our Amazon wish list
