Patient Profiles

Every day new patients arrive at our facility. In an effort to tell their story of survival and highlight the diverse number of species that we rehabilitate, we highlight a new patient each week. Some of these are individuals, others are orphaned siblings. As their cases progress - we will update the outcome - our hope is that many, many of these patients are released!

Tree Top Rescue

This Barred Owl was discovered dangling from a tree in Mount Vernon last week. She was entangled in kite string. We went out to evaluate the situation and plan a rescue. Unfortunately, none of our tree climber friends were available for several hours, so we had to find another solution.
Using ladders, some poles, rope, saws, and sheer determination - our team was able to get her down. These photos show the rescue, her initial exam, and how exhausted she was after the ordeal. By some miracle, she did not have any fractures or dislocation of the wing. She lost some feathers, but is doing much better. (See last photo of her today!) Status: Released
