Patient Updates

Every day new patients arrive at our facility. In an effort to tell their story of survival and highlight the diverse number of species that we rehabilitate, we highlight a new patient each week. Some of these are individuals, others are orphaned siblings. As their cases progress - we will update the outcome - our hope is that many, many of these patients are released!

Pileated Woodpecker

This woodpecker was brought in late yesterday after hitting a window in downtown Arlington. It is suffering from head trauma. Right now woodpeckers are very territorial and we are getting lots of calls about them.

If you have one causing problems at your home, there are lots of deterrents you can try - metal plastic sheeting or streamers, closing the drapes, or other methods can keep them from banging on your home and siding. Status - euthanized. Unfortunately, due to the severe head trauma the woodpecker was found having spun around in such a way that it caused one leg to become twisted and dislocated in multiple places. The secondary injuries indicated that the trauma was too severe for the bird to recover.
